What Do You NEED and WANT in Your New Home?

Before you go out and look for a new home, you need to know what you are looking for.  Some buyers say, "Oh, I will know it when I see it."  This is partially true.  You may find a home that is just gorgeous, and you fall in love with it... emotionally.  But, does it really meet your needs?  Is it really what you wanted?

First, you need to define what you and any other decision-maker want and really need in your new home.  And, perhaps you should also make a list of what you DON'T want.

After you have these lists, you may find that the house does not exist which meets all your criteria or you have gone out of your price range.  Now, it is important to prioritize your lists and decide what you MUST have and which are the things you could possibly live without.  The lower priority items may be items that can be added to your home later.  An example might be, you want granite countertops, but it is only in higher-priced homes.  As long as the countertops are in good shape, you can always add the granite countertops later.

To help you get started, request the form below.  You will find all the items commonly asked for in a home.  Fill it out and mark the ones which are 'needs' and which are 'wants.'  Then prioitize the items from there.
